Are empty buildings Athens’ biggest problem right now?
In the middle of a deepening humanitarian crisis, with a bankrupt state, with thousands of refugees trapped in Greece on their way to the rest of Europe and with all our public property to be sold, in front of these huge issues it seems hard to focus on the empty buildings as the city’s greatest challenge for the years to come. Yet it is there that we can find the causes or the solutions to the problem of deep urban decline of the city’s centre.

what will be the fate of all these empty buildings?
An alternative proposal
Co-Hab Athens, launched on February 2016, is an ongoing research project for the future remediation of the urban quality of Athens. It aims to elaborate a long-term proposal for reclaiming quality of housing and housing as a right in the center of Athens by working on common ownership patterns that will result in tangible, realistic outcomes. Focusing on the reforming potential of common ownership for the reform of urban habitat the project seeks and builds collaborations with existing paradigms which have successfully been implemented abroad, and with similarly oriented ongoing projects.
